Jan 4 (Sun) - Back to DFW.

Morning was about cleaning the condo and getting packed to leave. Since the trip to Sunriver was so long and difficult for Kaler, we planned to drive half way to Amy and Steve's house, near Portland and then leave late, when Kaler was finally asleep. However, Kaler did very well and we only had to stop twice, so we made it back to Seattle by 8:30 p.m.

We think these are the Three Sisters, near Bend, Oregon. (Click picture for larger view).

Not really sure which mountains are which. The one on the right MIGHT be Three-Fingered Jack.

Mount Jefferson, second largest peak in Oregon. We were lucky to see it, this time of year. The large volcanic peaks of the Cascades make their own weather and attract clouds, so it is can be hard to see them even in the Summer. (Click picture for larger view.)

Taken as we were going thru a small canyon of the Deschutes River. The lines in the rocks are columns of vocanic basalt, formed when lava cools at a certain rate. (Click picture for larger view.)

Road up Mount Hood, which is the largest mountain in Oregon.

Road over Mount Hood. (Click picture for larger view.)

On Mount Hood we finally saw one of the snow blowing plows. (Click picture for larger view.)

Just over the top of Mount Hood there was a detour along small Marmot Road. We think there was a land slide, but cannot confirm this.

The road was narrow and not designed for so much traffic (and almost flooded in places). It was also much more interesting than the highway.

Along the way Natty started singing "Old MacDonald". Natty being from Tailand, she has the joy of learning all of the American children's songs for the first time. She is laughing because she was singing: "Old MacDonald he has a farm." We were teaching her the actual words. She really got laughing as we made her sing the verses: Oink, Moo, etc.
