Day 20 - July 31 - Church and Lunch

Back to Index of All Days

Back to friends and family here.

I enjoyed services with Maria Elsa the week before but wanted to see one of the Catholic services, so I planned on San Francisco, next door. The girls (Imelda and Sandy) went out to breakfast to Cafe Condesa, by the square. I waited as long as possible, but eventually had to go to church alone.

The priest is doing the rite of communion. I didn't take a lot of photos because I didn't want to disturb the service, even without a flash. The priest sounds like he is from Spain. I can understand about 60% of what he says.

After the service the people rushed toward the front. They are being blessed and sprayed with holy water by the priest. I saw a lady that was nearly drenched with holy water.

The musicians. There are a few singers, an electronic piano, a string bass, and the gentleman in the blue and white stripped shirt is playing the marimba. I wish I had been able to get a picture of the bassist coming in. He was walking with the bass over his shoulder like a hobo.

Here we are going up the hill to lunch. They are laughing because they are trying to put their seat belts on and Conchita's doesn't work. She's trying to tie it or something. We took the free shuttle which leaves from Santa Domingo.

I enjoyed watching Manuel look at the art for the first time. I was only sorry that Hugo wasn't able to be there, due to his wife being ill. I would have really liked to watch the two of them talk over the art.

We shared four meals and a salad. The food here is as amazing as I expected. The bill was around $70. Not bad for where we are.

The gang.

Maria Elsa thinks that her leg being up a bit looks kind of provocative.
