A Lenten Chant

This was written for Ash Wednesday for a chamber choir. I've performed it recently with 8 voices. It is haunting and quiet, but with a surprisingly powerful middle section. The ending is one of my favorites.

I have one choir member that would have been irate if I had performed it when she was gone!

SATB choir and organ. Easy, except the counting in the counterpoint ending (good way to teach some counting, though).

Cost: $1.00 per copy (15 copy minimum)

Composer Notes:

I wrote this for a small, 12-voice chamber choir for an Ash Wednesday Service. I envision God overlooking humanity whilst perceiving all God has created. I wanted a crescendo on "For I the Lord" in the first few lines, imagining God having hard time holding back his majesty.

I originally wrote this in D-minor because I think like the haunting nature of D-minor. However, I eventually lowered it to C-minor because it is still within the range of the organ pedals and it doesn't sound as piercing in the middle section.
