Guatemala - 2011

Day 7 - July 18 - To Flores

Back to Index of All Days

Back to friends and family here.

Really not much to tell about today. I am thinking about leaving tonight at 6 p.m. for Guatemala City and Flores. I bought a botequin (first aid kit) at the pharmacy (pieced together bandages and stuff). I double checked plans with Yoli and Kevin. I got the last bit of clothes washed and packed. A bit of studying with Hugo and that's my whole day.

This is a ruin that is in the courtyard (?) of Maria Elsa's house. They can't remove it, of course, because it is an antiquity.

My big grin is because I have just surprised my teacher from 5 years ago (Diana). This is the first time we have seen each other since then. Elsa told me that she was working again at "La Union" so Hugo and I went to see her on her break. I called out her name and this is her reaction when she finally saw me.

OK - this was something fun and interesting. Just before lunch Maria Elsa ran out of propane for the stove. The containers are heavy, so I helped get more. The funny part is that after we bought the fuel she told me to wait on the street. She seemed to be going to another shop to get something. I waited quite a while (20 minutes, at least). Finally, a motorcycle pulls up to me with the boyfriend of one of Elsa's daughters. Elsa had walked home a different way and thought I had already walked home.

A "before shot". Interesting how at this point we are still mostly strangers.
