Day 14 - Aug 2 - Goodbyes

Back to Index of All Days

Back to friends and family here.

I invited Hugo, Maria, Elsa, Ashley, Rich, and Phil to a goodbye lunch at the Inca Restaurant. Maria and I walked by on the way to ensure my ride to the airport with Yoli. Turns out the Inca Restaurant is closed on Mondays. Yikes! Not such a big deal unless you don't have everyone's phone numbers.

I tried to call Rich and Phil from Yoli's phone and couldn't reach them. So the only other possibility is to get to the Inca early and wait for them.

Just a dog in a window.

Maria and I sat down against the door of the Inca Restaurant and waited for Hugo or Elsa to arrive. Very soon the door opened and the owner greeted us, asking what was up. I sadly told him about my planned luncheon and how I had wanted to show the restaurant to my friends to help advertise.

Much to our great amazement, his chef was there and they opened up just for us. Of course, we couldn't order any menu item, only what was easy and quick for the chef. Nonetheless, it was a brilliant meal with good service and wonderful comraderie.

Left to right: Hugo, Maria, me, Elsa, and Ashley.

After lunch Hugo and I took Elsa and Ashley to Panchoy for Ashley's first Jaimaica.

Since it was after lunch we shared two drinks.

Ashley is an ER doctor from Florida working in Philadelphia.

Then Elsa and I took the bus to Guatemala City to buy her some cookware. I bought her a knife set and a two burner griddle for cooking tortillas.

Here we are on the outskirts of Antigua where the bus drops you off. She has my raincoat on, since it is raining a bit.

Along the road. Notice the river.

Last dinner with Elsa and Ashley.
